SAN ANTONIO — A suspect has been arrested in connection to a 2022 shooting that claimed the lives of two teenagers during a meetup to exchange vapes.

Joshua Reyes, 20, is accused of shooting and killing two teens, aged 14 and 15, in July 2022 during a meet-up to exchange THC vapes, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

Police say Reyes exchanged messages with the victims via social media to arrange the meetup and these messages later helped investigators link him to the location.

The shooting happened just after 2 a.m. in the 1700 block of Schley Avenue near Mitten Street on the city’s South Side. Both teens were shot in the vehicle, with one tragically dying at the scene and the other was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital.

SAPD says witnesses saw Reyes tampering with evidence at the crime scene, even picking up shell casings.

Investigators were also able to use DNA evidence left on the vapes to match Reyes to the murders. Police say they are not looking for any other suspects in this case and Reyes had no criminal history prior to the arrest.

Reyes was arrested Monday without incident and now possibly faces the death penalty or a life sentence, in accordance with the capital murder charge.
