LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) – A house fire was reported on the 2100 block of Market St. Monday evening around 5:30 p.m.
According to a press release from the La Crosse Fire Department, the first truck on scene reported smoke coming from the second story. Residents were already evacuated and during the search for any other people, crews safely removed some pet birds and bring them outside.
The fire was limited to the walls and ceiling on the second story with very little fire extension to the attic.
According to the press release, damage is moderate.
The fire is currently under investigation. The Red Cross is assisting the family with housing.
