Cool start to Tuesday morning across Houston, but expected to warm up later in the day

  • September 9, 2025

A front has moved through, dropping humidity to comfortable levels with dew points in the 50s. That means the air feels crisp and refreshing — a welcome change after a long summer.

Tuesday morning will actually bring the coolest start we’ve had since mid-May.

Tuesday Forecast:

Lows dip into the mid-60s across much of the city, with outlying areas slipping into the upper-50s. It’s a brief but beautiful window to enjoy being outdoors.

If this happens, it would mark the first time since May that morning temperatures have dropped into the 60s in Houston. That’s a big deal for many who have been braving muggy, warm mornings all summer.

Afternoon Forecast:

Daytime highs, despite the low humidity, are still expected to be on the warmer side, starting in the upper 80s to near 90 on Monday and gradually climbing back into the mid 90s by the end of the week.

Tuesday’s Highs

Sunshine should be a constant companion, too, which has been in short supply for much of the summer.

Dewpoints drop

Behind the weak cold front, expect a few days with morning temperatures in the 60s, and you might even notice a less humid feel as drier air builds in. Afternoons will still be warm but with the dry air, it should feel more pleasant and not as soupy as it has been for the last few weeks.

Late week changes:

This is Houston in September, so this crisp cooler weather won’t last long. Humidity begins to return Thursday, and by Friday morning, temperatures start the day back in the mid-70s — right around average for this time of year.

No tropical development is expected in the Atlantic over the next week — a noteworthy break, considering we’re sitting at the statistical peak of hurricane season on September 10. Historically, this week is when the basin is most active, with the greatest number of storms on record forming around this date.

Quiet across the Atlantic

Given that we are nearly at the peak of hurricane season, it is remarkable that we’re relatively quiet in the Atlantic Basin. However, we’ll keep a watch on the boundary that is sitting in the Gulf.

Nothing to worry about now but some long-range models are looking to spin up a weak open low pressure system by the end of the week. We’ll keep a watch on it.

Your extended forecast:

Afternoon highs will stay warm, in the upper-80s to low-90s, but sunshine dominates the forecast through the week. If you want to soak up this taste of fall, mornings are your best bet before the summer stickiness makes its comeback.

Temperatures and dewpoints will be on the rise again. Expect highs in the mid 90s by the end of the week. However, we’ll stay rain free for the entirety of the 10-day forecast!
