SAN ANTONIO – Popular Tejano star Ram Herrera has announced he is battling stage 4 prostate cancer.

In a video shared on his fan Facebook page, the San Antonio singer revealed the diagnosis just hours ago. Herrera said he will not need chemotherapy, but will begin treatment with medication followed by radiation.

Herrera, who rose to fame in the early 1980s as part of David Lee Garza y Los Musicales, is beloved across Texas for his music and performances.

In his message, he urged the importance of early screening and reflected on what lies ahead:

I’m gonna have to change my whole way of living basically. And like I said once again, comrades, I urge y’all to go get screened before it’s too late. It’s amazing what they can do now. I’m gonna put all my trust in them now and in Jesus, and I really hope y’all keep praying for me. I really do hope to see you out there soon.

Herrera said his treatment will begin with pills before moving to radiation. Fans across San Antonio and beyond are sending prayers and support as he begins his recovery journey.
