HOUSTON – Police say a woman’s ex-boyfriend was shot and killed late Monday night after he refused to stop attacking her during a violent confrontation outside her northeast Houston home.

It happened just before 11 p.m. at a house on Hoffman near Houston Gardens Park.
Officers said the woman had recently broken off the relationship, and the unidentified ex-boyfriend came by to pick up his belongings. To keep things civil, the woman asked a male friend to be present.

Doorbell video showed the ex-boyfriend assaulting the woman, leaving her with bruises and scars, according to investigators. When the friend tried to intervene, police said the ex turned on him as well.
That friend then went to his truck and got a gun. Police said he came back to find the ex still beating the woman, who was on the ground and barely conscious. Investigators said he ordered him to stop before pistol-whipping him and shooting him several times, killing him.

Police later found the ex-boyfriend dead on the porch and the male friend and his truck in west Houston, taking him into custody. The woman, meanwhile, was badly beaten and bruised, but HPD said she refused to be taken to the hospital.
“It was a pretty brutal assault,” Lt. JP Horelica said.

HPD says the case will be presented to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed or sent to a grand jury.

Another woman and two young children were inside the home, asleep at the time of the shooting, but were not injured.
