Okay, picture this: two of the biggest names in Hollywood, Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise, squaring off on the racetrack. Not gonna lie, that sounds like pure movie magic, right? Well, it turns out that dream might actually have a tiny spark of life, thanks to F1 director Joseph Kosinski.
Kosinski, who just crushed it with Top Gun: Maverick (seriously, that movie proved what’s possible!) and now has the heart-pounding new F1 film starring Brad Pitt, recently dropped a bombshell idea. He was chatting with GQ UK, and the topic? Getting those two legends back on screen together.
His wild pitch? A crossover sequel that could link Pitt’s new F1 character, Sonny Hayes, with Tom Cruise’s iconic Cole Trickle from the 1990 racing classic, Days of Thunder! You heard that right. He’s talking about a universe where these two racing titans have a shared past.
Think about it: Sonny Hayes, that aging punk-rock racer who lost his way, somehow having a history with the hotshot NASCAR phenom Cole Trickle. The potential for absolute fireworks, intense rivalry, and just plain awesome cinema? It’s off the charts!
Kosinski even brought up something fascinating: he “heard about this epic go-kart battle” that Brad and Tom apparently had way back when they worked together on 1994’s Interview with a Vampire. Seriously, who wouldn’t pay good money to see those two go head-to-head on the track, even if it’s fictionalized? He’s totally right!
While this is still just a super cool idea floating out there, the thought of Kosinski — a guy who’s shown he can make real-life action feel unbelievably immersive — bringing Pitt and Cruise together in a high-octane racing showdown? That, friends, would be absolutely legendary.
F1 is now playing in movie theaters.
