Popup Gigi’s Deli has opened its first physical location after a few years of slinging Italian sandwiches at various locations around town.

Gigi’s first permanent deli will be housed inside El Tigre Coffee, located at 123 Heiman at the historic St. Paul Square. Its hours of operation will be Wednesday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Chef Matthew Garcia is behind the deli concept, which is known for serving up inventive and playful sandwiches including the Italian Disco with mortadella, prosciutto, salami and pepper relish. The Uncle Ruben, another crowd fave, features pastrami, Swiss, coleslaw and Russian dressing. The menu also features breakfast sandwiches — such as the Munchos, Egg & Cheese — which are available all day.

For the past few years, the popular roving deli has served up artisanal sandwiches out of an airstream in front of St. Mary’s Strip wine bar Little Death.

“Gigi’s Deli started as a lighthearted residency back in 2021 at Little Death, and from there I would do occasional pop-ups throughout San Antonio,” Garcia said in an emailed statement. “It’s exciting to now have a permanent spot in the heart of our city, something we can call home while we continue to explore bold flavors and creative takes on the classic deli experience.”
