A member of Bruce Springsteen’s legendary E Street Band underwent emergency surgery in Europe earlier this week after mistaking appendicitis for food poisoning.
Steven Van Zandt, a longtime guitarist and mandolin player in Springsteen’s backing band, shared on X that he received treatment for the condition in San Sebastian, Spain during the European leg of Springsteen’s current tour.
“Got a sharp pain in my stomach, thought it was food poisoning, turned out to be appendicitis,” he wrote on Monday. “Got lucky with an exceptional hospital in San Sebastian. Operation was a complete success and I’m hoping to get back on stage for at least one of the shows in Milan.”
Only three shows remain for Springsteen’s European tour: a stop tonight in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, and two dates at San Siro Stadium in Milan, Italy next week, which Van Zandt referenced in his post.
The musician ended the post with gratitude for “all the good vibes” from fans, stating optimistically, “see you soon.”
In the meantime, apparently Van Zandt is feeling well enough to stay active on social media. Yesterday he shared a comment on X regarding a new single from musician Ryan Hamilton, which will be released through Van Zandt’s record label Wicked Cool Records.
“Gotta love that cover!” Van Zandt wrote, in reference to the single’s vibrant, albeit silly album art.
