The New York State Police (NYSP) and New York State Park Police (NYSPP) are currently conducting a joint search operation in Buttermilk Falls State Park for an individual experiencing a mental health crisis.

Residents and visitors may notice increased police presence and activity in the area. Authorities want to assure the public that there is no danger to the community.

The search efforts are being assisted by New York State Forest Rangers, Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department, Volunteer search groups, K9 units, and drones.

The NYSP and NYSPP asks for the public’s cooperation and understanding as they work to locate and assist the individual in need.
