1. Texas Democrat James Talarico announces U.S. Senate campaign, vows to ‘take power back for working Texans’

State Rep. James Talarico, D-Austin, announced Tuesday morning his candidacy for the U.S. Senate, becoming the second major name to jump into the Democratic primary and ending months of speculation over his political future.

2. Gov. Abbott expected to release executive order on THC products

According to The Texas Tribune, Gov. Greg Abbott is set to release an executive order governing the sale of THC products in Texas. The order is expected to regulate how and where such products can be sold, and seems to be a direct response to Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s plea for a total ban on THC in the state. 

3. ICE hosts hiring event in Arlington amid nationwide immigration crackdown

According to Homeland Security officials, the immigration enforcement agency logged more than 100,000 applications, as age restrictions have loosened. Applicants can be 18 years of age with no cutoff age for employment consideration. Bonuses of up to $50,000 and student loan repayment benefits are part of the package too.

Smoke shops see emptier shelves as partial vape ban takes effect

A statewide ban on certain e-cigarettes is leaving Texas vape enthusiasts with fewer options to purchase at their local smoke shops and empty shelves in the distribution centers that supply them.

On Sept. 1, Senate Bill 2024 went into effect, which prohibits the marketing, advertising and selling of certain e-cigarettes or vapes.
