A 76-year-old man was pushed to the ground and beaten to death while waiting at a bus stop in Chicago Monday night, authorities said.

Around 9:15 p.m. Monday, police responded to a call for service in Chicago’s Longwood Manor neighborhood on the 9500 block of South Halsted and found the man on the ground with trauma to his head, authorities said. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Further investigation revealed the man was pushed to the ground and battered while waiting at a bus stop by an unidentified man who fled the scene, police said.

Surveillance video obtained by NBC Chicago from a nearby business showed part of the confrontation.

Just 14 minutes after the deadly attack, another 911 call was made from a McDonalds just steps away from where the man was found.

Around 9:30 p.m., a 60-year-old woman reported that a man who implied he had a firearm forcibly stole her vehicle on the 9500 block of South Halsted. A 3-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy were in the vehicle when the carjacking occurred, police said.

The suspect then drove the stolen vehicle to Indiana, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Authorities in Shererville, Ind. said police were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. Monday to Indianapolis Boulevard and Woodhollow Drive for a crash involving shots fired.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities immediately took a suspect into custody, police said.

One of the vehicles involved in the incident was reported stolen out of Chicago, authorities said, though police did not immediately specify whether the person arrested in Indiana is the same suspect as the person wanted for the deadly beating.
