1. Senate Republican campaign arm urges Rep. Wesley Hunt to pass on potential run

National Republicans are pressuring U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt, R-Houston, to stop toying with the possibility of a U.S. Senate run — and instead throw his support behind longtime U.S. Sen. John Cornyn as he faces what’s expected to be a bitter primary battle against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Based on the release of statewide ads, Hunt appears to be trying to raise his profile. He is potentially laying the groundwork to jump into the Republican primary for Senate, which already includes two GOP heavyweights, Cornyn and Paxton.

In a statement to WFAA, an event spokesperson attributed the change to cost and safety. Of the 2 million free tickets printed each year, only about 10% are used, and printing and distributing the tickets is expensive, they say.

3. San Antonio ISD soliciting bids to take over closed schools

The San Antonio Independent School District (SAISD) is soliciting proposals for bids to lease several school buildings that were closed due to declining enrollment almost two years ago.
