Rail riders in San Diego County should plan ahead: all COASTER service will be suspended the weekend of Sept. 20–21 as crews complete maintenance and infrastructure projects along the coastal tracks.

During the closure, NCTD’s COASTER service between San Diego and Oceanside will not operate. Regularly scheduled service will resume Monday morning, Sept. 22.

The planned suspension is part of periodic weekend closures scheduled throughout the year to give construction crews safe access to the tracks for preventative maintenance and major railroad construction projects.

Work planned for Sept. 20–21 includes:

  • Del Mar Bluffs Stabilization Phase 5
  • Track maintenance at Sorrento Valley Station

Although no passenger or freight trains will operate during the closure, test trains, construction vehicles, and equipment will be active along the rail corridor. Residents are asked to remain alert, and the public is reminded to cross only at designated rail crossings.
