see the special touch inside the walls of this veteran’s new house

  • September 10, 2025

HOUSTON – In Waller, Texas, a simple frame of wood and nails is transforming into something much bigger – a mortgage-free home for Army veteran Staff Sergeant Cassandra Pierre and her three children.

At PulteGroup’s Built to Honor event, team members from the Houston Division filled the unfinished walls with Notes of Love – blessings, prayers, and personal messages meant to stay with the home forever.

Lindy Oliva, Houston Division President for PulteGroup, said the Notes of Love event is one of her favorite things about being part of PulteGroup.

“We build homes every day, but giving back to veterans who’ve given so much for us, this is incredibly meaningful,” she said.

Among those leaving messages was Brianna Leon, Division Product Manager for PulteGroup, who said she and her family wrote Bible scriptures in every room of the home.

“My parents were Marines, just like Cassie, so this hits home for me in a very personal way,” she said.

Melissa Kloss, Community Agent with PulteGroup, found the moment especially emotional.

Tearing up, she said, “I just hope this family finds love, happiness, and peace in this home. It’s not just about building walls. It’s about building a future filled with blessings.”

In partnership with Operation Homefront, this home marks the 100th mortgage-free home built through PulteGroup’s Built to Honor program since its launch in 2013. The home will be completed later this year, with PulteGroup presenting the keys to Cassandra and her children in December.

From Homes to Careers: PulteGroup’s Ongoing Support for Veterans

For PulteGroup team member Ife Uwagboi, the Built to Honor event carries personal significance. His sister, Chid Uwagboi, a 13-year Army veteran, found her post-military career at PulteGroup after he encouraged her to apply.

“She was a drill sergeant, deployed to Iraq,” Ife said. “When she retired, I wanted her to have the same opportunities I had here. PulteGroup gives back to veterans in a big way.”

Chid agreed, “Transitioning from the military to civilian life isn’t easy,” she said. “But PulteGroup supported me every step of the way — and gave me a place where my skills and experience truly matter.”

Brian Hahn, PulteGroup’s Houston Division Vice President of Land Acquisition and a veteran himself, said that support goes far beyond this one home.

“I’ve been in homebuilding for 13 years,” Hahn said. “But the dedication this team puts into supporting veterans – it moves me. I’m proud to be part of it.”

From mortgage-free homes to meaningful careers, PulteGroup’s commitment to veterans is building far more than walls. It’s building homes. And it’s building futures.
