Fall hasn’t officially started yet in New York. But our trees have already begun their stunning autumnal glow-up.

From the High Peaks of the Adirondacks to the northern Catskills, leaves are starting to change in Upstate New York. And to mark that exciting milestone, I LOVE NY has released its first foliage report of 2025.

The fan-favorite report, compiled by the state tourism bureau with the help of more than 90 volunteer field observers, helps fall fanatics determine where to spot the most brilliant colors during leaf-peeping season.

So where can leaf peepers go to get an early look at red, yellow and orange leaves?

For now, the best fall colors can be found in the mountains, according to I LOVE NY.

“New York State’s 2025 fall foliage season is underway, with the first signs of the spectacular seasonal colors to come appearing in all Upstate New York regions,” I LOVE NY wrote in its inaugural 2025 fall foliage report.

While the “most significant” changes are expected in Wilmington, Saranac Lake and Old Forge in the Adirondacks and Delhi, Windham and Liberty in the Catskills, fall colors are also starting to appear in Corning and Salamanca in the Southern Tier.

The scene sounds particularly beautiful in Tupper Lake, where a field observer notes “the summer’s subtle greens commence the advance to autumn splendor with traces of mustard, goldenrod and bronze.”

Here are the color change predictions around Upstate New York for the week of Sept. 10-16, 2025, according to I LOVE NY. (Note: The regions in the report are determined by the state tourism bureau.)
