Houston woman recalls knowing Charlie Kirk before his rise in conservative politics

  • September 11, 2025

HOUSTON – A Houston woman says she has known Charlie Kirk since he was a teenager, long before he became a nationally recognized figure in conservative politics.

Buffie Ingersoll shared memories of Kirk with KPRC 2 reporter Corley Peel, reflecting on his early days and lasting impact.

Ingersoll first met Kirk when he was just 18 years old. She said their connection began through her husband, who was on a hunting board looking for a young writer to help with a book. She said Kirk had recently started his conservative youth organization, Turning Point USA, out of his parents’ garage.

“I feel like he’s made it cool to be conservative for youth,” Ingersoll said.

She invited Kirk to Houston to speak to student groups as he was getting started. She fondly recalled a humorous moment when Kirk gave one of his mentees $20 with the advice to “get some dark socks… (to wear with pants) people need to take you seriously.”

When asked if she imagined Kirk’s success, Ingersoll said, “I knew that he’d be president someday. I absolutely, 100% was sure of that.”

Ingersoll also spoke about watching Kirk grow as a husband, father and devoted Christian, describing him as historic and brilliant.

She asked for prayers for Kirk’s family and friends as they navigate this difficult time.
