PENNSAUKEN, N.J. (WPVI) — Ceremonies will take place across the country on Thursday to mark the 24th anniversary of the September 11th terror attacks.
Once again this year, volunteers joined first responders to place American flags across the lawn at the 9/11 Memorial in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
“We’re able to come here as a community, gather as a community, unite in remembrance, and really honor those who lost their lives in the 9/11 terror attack, and pay tribute to survivors and all our brave and dedicated first responders,” said Pennsauken Mayor Nicole Roberts.
In Philadelphia, a processional from the Fireman’s Museum will lead to the Betsy Ross House for a ceremony.
A ceremony will also be held at the Garden of Reflection in Lower Makefield Township. There were 18 residents of Bucks County who lost their lives that day.
In Sewell, members of Boy Scout Troop 57 placed 2,977 American flags on the lawn of McGuinness Funeral Home. The flags will remain until next Wednesday and represent each life lost on 9/11.
The hope is that this tribute will educate young people about the impact of this tragedy and the aftermath.
“We help them understand what exactly happened and how we pulled through as a country as Americans and helped deliver a positive message in a tragic situation,” said Michael Kushner, of Boy Scout Troop 57.
