SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio City Council Member Ivalis Meza Gonzalez is facing a censure vote this week in the aftermath of her DWI arrest this summer.
Meza Gonzalez, 43, was arrested on a drunk driving suspicion in July. Her criminal case file revealed that her blood alcohol level at the time was at least 0.15, nearly double the legal limit of 0.08. She was apparently driving home from the Centre Club, a downtown club frequented by the city’s politicians and business elite.
According to a report from the San Antonio Express-News, Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones and the City Council will vote Thursday on whether Meza Gonzalez will face punishment, with Jones being in favor of a censure.
Meza Gonzalez, who was about a month into her first term representing District 8 at the time of the arrest, was seen on police body camera video denying having any alcoholic drinks. She was stripped of her council committee assignments on Sept. 5 and has not yet been arraigned on the charge.
