Bethune-Cookman University is on lockdown and classes have been canceled after “a potential threat to campus safety” was made, the school said.

Bethune-Cookman is a private Historically Black University in Daytona Beach. Several HBCUs across the U.S. received threats on Thursday.

“All classes have been canceled; students should return to their dorm rooms and shelter in place,” the school said.

The Daytona Beach Police Department said it is investigating a reported threat directed at Bethune-Cookman.

“We ask the public to avoid the area until further notice,” police said.

Two schools in Virginia received threats, NBC Washington is reporting. Alabama State University was on lockdown, according to WVTM 13, as well as Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
