History

CLEMSON – The Elon University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision (13-25, 14-25, 10-25) to Clemson on Thursday at Jervey Gym in its opener at the Clemson/Wofford Tournament.
 
The Phoenix (1-6) was led by Cameron Lanier, who finished with eight kills. Shannon O’Laughlin tallied 12 digs on the defensive end, while Simrin Carlsen added seven.
 
Clemson stayed unbeaten at 7-0 on the season. The Tigers had a balanced attack, with nine players recording at least three kills.
 
THE RUNDOWN

  • Elon hung close in the opening set, trailing 12-10 after a Clemson service error. The Tigers, however, responded with a 5-0 run and held the Phoenix to only three more points to take the first set, 25-13.
  • In the second set, Elon jumped out to a 4-1 lead behind blocks from Kyla Johnson, Allie Schultz and Carlsen. Clemson regrouped with a 7-0 run to go ahead 8-4. After Elon cut the deficit to 9-7, the Tigers answered with a 9-2 stretch to build an 18-9 advantage. A 4-0 spurt extended the lead to 23-11 before Clemson closed out the set, 25-14.
  • The Tigers dominated the third set, opening with an 11-2 run. Elon pulled within 12-6 after a Schultz service ace, but Clemson cruised to a 25-10 win to complete the sweep.
