SAN ANTONIO — Today marks 24 years since the 9/11 attacks, and the Pentagon honored the day by unfurling the American flag on the side of the building at sunrise.

The remembrance pays tribute to the 184 service members and civilians who died when hijackers steered a jetliner into the Pentagon, as well as the nearly 3,000 victims America lost in the 2001 terrorist attack.

In San Antonio, the community gathered to climb the stairs inside the Alamodome, mimicking twice the height of the World Trade Center towers. First responders and service members from across the state came together to pay tribute to the fallen heroes.

After the Twin Towers fell in New York, firefighters bravely climbed 110 floors, many losing their lives trying to save others.

This event has donated more than $100,000 to various organizations to support first responders.
