While a high of 96 degrees on Friday sure sounds like summer in North Texas, it hopefully shouldn’t feel exactly like it.

Extreme humidity often pushes the heat index, or “feels like” temperature, well above the actual air temperature, sometimes by as much as 10 degrees. That signature humidity has been largely absent in the pleasant fall conditions that started the week. While it has climbed some, the humidity is not forecasted to reach levels common in July or August.

Friday and Saturday are predicted to be the hottest days of this current warming trend, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office, with respective heat indexes of 99 and 97 degrees. By the start of next week, temperatures are expected to drop slightly to the low 90s.

Those forecasted temps would be hotter than normal, with highs in the upper 80s usually expected for mid-September.
