A man who allegedly pointed a gun at cars at a North Hills intersection died after being shot by Los Angeles police officers, the LAPD confirmed Friday.

The shooting happened Wednesday afternoon after officers were sent to Parthenia Street at Orion Avenue after getting a call about a man with a gun. When he pointed his handgun at the officers, they fired back, according to the LAPD.

The suspect was identified as 50-year-old Gustavo Ramirez, and the LAPD said he was armed with a replica handgun and a glass bottle when the confrontation occurred.

Ramirez was taken to a hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel, but he did not survive.

No officers or civilians were injured.

Personnel from the LAPD’s Force Investigation Division and representatives from the California Department of Justice responded to the scene and assumed investigative responsibility.
