SAN ANTONIO — The investigation into the assassination of Charlie Kirk continues, but officials in Utah took a moment during a press conference to thank local law enforcement agencies, including those in San Antonio, for their role in tracking down the suspect.

FBI Director Kash Patel highlighted the collaborative effort, saying, “The FBI Salt Lake Field Office, along with our offices in LA, Phoenix, Denver, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, our headquarters component in Quantico…”

San Antonio was part of the national effort to apprehend the suspected shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. Abel Pena, a former FBI special agent with 26 years of service, noted the significant resources available in San Antonio.

“They’ve got just several 100 agents assigned to the San Antonio division alone, which includes Austin and in the Rio Grande Valley. And with that, there are talents and resources that San Antonio has,” said Pena.

Pena added, “I do know that they’ll sometimes bring in people that have behavioral science backgrounds to conduct a behavioral analysis of the subject. So that’s really helpful.”

He also mentioned the possibility of ballistic experts from the area being sent to Utah, given the thousands of leads the FBI was pursuing.

“It’s just a tremendous effort by all law enforcement, including the FBI, local, state, federal, and it was just a great accomplishment of them working together,” said Pena.

Despite the arrest, the investigation is ongoing. Pena emphasized that the bureau will continue to examine all evidence involved in the case.
