Mayor Karen Bass Friday appointed Patrice Lattimore to serve as the next City Clerk, taking over the position from Holly Wolcott, who retired in January following a 37-year career at City Hall.

“The City Clerk plays a critical role within the city of Los Angeles, by ensuring that Angelenos have access to their municipal government while also holding the responsibility of administering fair and open elections,” Bass said in a statement.

The mayor added that she trusts Lattimore in leveraging her extensive experience as City Clerk ahead of upcoming elections and the Charter Reform Commission process underway.

“I am honored to be appointed by Mayor Bass as the next City Clerk, Lattimore said in a statement. “With elections in the coming years, and the City’s Charter Reform Commission underway, I’m excited to deliver the innovation and transparency that Angelenos deserve from their municipal government.”

Lattimore’s appointment will be considered by the Government Operations Committee followed by a presentation to the full City Council for consideration.

She serves as the chief management analyst for the City Clerk’s office, where she has developed a legislative management system and increased Spanish language accessibility for all council and committee meetings. Lattimore received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Southern California, and later earned her master’s degree in industrial and organizational psychology from Los Angeles Pacific University.

If approved, Lattimore will be replacing Interim City Clerk Petty Santos, who has been serving in that capacity since January.

“I want to offer my deepest gratitude to Petty Santos for continuing to serve as interim City Clerk until Ms. Lattimore is confirmed by the City Council. Her stewardship of the department and extensive understanding of the city’s processes have helped move this city forward and I am grateful for her dedicated partnership,” Bass said in a statement.
