1. ‘We got him’: 22-year-old suspect in Charlie Kirk’s killing arrested, identified
The man accused in the Charlie Kirk assassination had earlier expressed to family his opposition to the viewpoints of the conservative activist, the authorities said Friday in announcing an arrest in a targeted killing that raised fresh alarms about political violence in the United States.
2. Texas State professor fired over remarks during socialism conference
A Texas State University professor was fired this week after speaking at a conference about revolutionary socialism.
In a video circulating online, associate history professor Thomas Alter can be seen in a Zoom meeting for the Revolutionary Socialism Conference over the weekend discussing organizing the working class to build a revolutionary socialist party.
3. Austin police release more information on shooting near Zilker Park
The Austin Police Department (APD) said on X that the shooting happened on the 700 block of Azie Morton Road, which is near the Umlauf Sculpture Garden + Museum, around 4 a.m.
The suspect fled the area, but around 8:40 a.m., police said they had a person in custody. Police say the suspect is 30-year-old Brandon Thompson, and he was charged with attempted capital murder of a peace officer and burglary of a residence.

Dak Prescott’s Cowboys face Giants in home opener, believing they can build on hope
Four years ago, Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys almost beat the Super Bowl champs on the road in the NFL opener in his return from an injury that played a big part in a losing record the previous season.
Then the star quarterback and his surprisingly resurgent team ran off six consecutive victories on the way to the first of three straight trips to the playoffs.
Dallas is off to the same start going into Sunday’s home opener against the New York Giants (0-1) after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 24-20.
