Three felony theft suspects were taken into custody after a high-speed police chase that began in northwest Indiana ended near Chicago’s Chinatown neighborhood, authorities said.

On Monday afternoon, a Lake County Sheriff’s Department officer spotted a car in unincorporated Gary that matched the description of a vehicle involved in a theft from a retail area, the sheriff’s department said in a news release. Officers pursued the vehicle, which fled onto Cline Avenue and the Indiana Toll Road before continuing onto the Illinois Skyway and the Dan Ryan Expressway, authorities said.

Multiple people were seen throwing items out of the car during the chase, police stated.

Near Chinatown, officers used “a precision immobilization technique” in an attempt to stop the vehicle safely, and an unknown amount of time later, the suspects exited the car, authorities said.

Two men and one woman were taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for evaluation. No one involved sustained life-threatening injuries, police said.

Illinois State Police were assisting with the investigation.

The suspects, who all had active warrants out of Illinois, will be held in custody pending extradition to Indiana, authorities said.
