If you’re a fan of the 1960s and that particular era’s brand of music, you might just recognize these three one-hit wonders. If not, these songs might be totally new to you. Either way, they’re on the obscure side. But I think these standalone hits from the 1960s deserve to be revisited, as they’ve since fallen out of favor (and memory) in the wake of more popular and legendary songs. And yet, these three songs are still so good. Let’s take a look!

“I’ve Told Every Little Star” by Linda Scott

“I’ve Told Every Little Star” was originally written way back in 1932 by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II. It’s been recorded plenty of times through the year, most recently by Mac Miller for his 2010 mixtape, K.I.D.S. But before that, the song was a standout teen pop hit for Linda Scott. Her version made it to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and ranked even higher in other countries. Scott’s music career was pretty short, though, and she had stopped producing music by 1967. By that point, “I’ve Told Every Little Star” was her only Top 8 track in the US.

“California Sun” by The Rivieras

Like “I’ve Told Every Little Star”, “California Sun” was written by someone other than the members of the band that made the song famous. This tune was written by Henry Glover and recorded by Joe Jones in 1960. Three years later, a young band called The Rivieras recorded their rock and roll version with quite a bit of widespread acclaim. However, “California Sun” would be the frat rock outfit’s only successful song, and they would break up in 1966 before embarking on a nostalgic reunion tour in the 2000s. Several members have since passed away, marking The Rivieras as done for good.

“The Entertainer” by Tony Clarke

Tony Clarke is probably the most underrated entry on our list of one-hit wonders from the 1960s. Clarke died in a domestic dispute in 1971 at the age of only 31, but he left behind some really impressive music from the 1960s, namely the 1969 hit song “The Entertainer”. His song “Landslide” from 1965 also did quite well. “The Entertainer” hit No. 10 on the R&B charts.
