History

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – FIU Women’s Soccer (3-2-3) closed out non-conference play with a 2-2 draw against Jacksonville (2-3-1) on Sunday evening.

The match was evenly contested from the start, with both teams locked in a defensive battle that kept the scoreline at 0-0 heading into halftime.

The second half opened with a burst of offense. Redshirt junior Maya Maxwell put the Panthers on the board in the 48th minute, finishing an assist from Hanako Fujii to give FIU a 1-0 lead.

Jacksonville responded quickly, netting the equalizer in the 58th minute and then taking the lead in the 60th minute with another goal to go up 2-1.

The remainder of the match featured strong defensive efforts from both sides, with only five total shots attempted in the final stretch. FIU continued to push forward and finally broke through in the 86th minute when graduate student Jayden Boelter scored her first goal of the season, tying the match at 2-2.

The result marked the first draw in the history of the FIU-Jacksonville series.

FIU tallied eight total shots, led by seniors Chinatsu Kaio and Jayden Boelter, who each recorded two. Junior goalkeeper Valery Restrepo finished with a season-high five saves to help secure the tie.

UP NEXT 

The Panthers will be on the road for their first CUSA-match of the season when they take on conference newcomer Delaware on Sunday, September 21 at 12 p.m.
