Paula Ann (Belzung) Jones

OBITUARY

Paula Ann (Belzung) Jones, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025 at the age of 90.

Born on July 2, 1935 in Knoxville, Tennessee, Paula grew up with a deep love for family, community and education. She was raised in Fort Smith, Arkansas, descended from early French immigrants who settled in the area in the late 1800s. In Fort Smith, she built lifelong friendships and a strong foundation for the life she would go on to create.

On June 5, 1955, Paula married the love of her life, Oliver William “OW” Jones of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Their marriage was a partnership filled with devotion, laughter and unwavering support until OW’s passing. Together, they built a family that was always at the center of Paula’s heart.

After many relocations in support of OW’s medical career, the family settled in La Jolla, CA in 1968. This is when Paula completed college, earning a degree in Painting and Print Making from San Diego State University. This led to many years as an enamel artist and volunteer at Studio Five, Enamel Art in Spanish Village, ten years as a Docent at the San Diego Museum of Art, as well as classroom volunteer at Torrey Pines Elementary school where her children attended.

Those who knew Paula will remember her warmth, her wit and her boundless love for her family. She was known for her love of travel and fine chocolate. Paula leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience and grace that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her.

Paula is survived by her four children: Dr. Oliver William Jones III (Patricia Hagan) of Denver, Colorado, Peter C. Jones (Janet Jones) of San Diego, California, Moira Jones (Brian Schnese) of Carlsbad, California and Rebecca Mashburn (Dan Mashburn) of Point Loma, California. She was a proud grandmother to Jeremy, Sean, Christopher B., Max, Jo, Hailey, Christopher M., Michael and Amanda and a delighted great-grandmother to Joy, Weston, Jamie and Sonny.

A celebration of Paula’s life will be held at the La Jolla Presbyterian Church on Saturday, October 4 at 1:00pm.
