Yelp recently shared a list of its Top 25 Hot and New Latinx-owned eateries in the U.S., and one Arizona spot made the list.
Batey Puerto Rican Gastronomy opened in 2024 in Tucson, serving iconic Puerto Rican dishes like mofongo, arroz con gandules, tostones, empanadas and pastelillo de guayaba.

Cuban Foods Bakery & Restaurant
Cuban Foods Bakery is a small mom and pop restaurant in west Phoenix serving, you guessed it, Cuban food. Menu highlights include papas rellenas, cubano sandwiches and ropa vieja. For a sweet treat, try the flan or pastel de guayana.

El Chullo Peruvian Restaurant
El Chullo Peruvian Restaurant was opened by Esperanza Luzcando and her husband José Ramírez Sánchez in 2011. The space is decorated with Peruvian flags and art. Menu options include ceviches, tostadas and arroz con mariscos.

Phoenix Coqui
Located near the Melrose district, Phoenix Coqui started as a food truck in 2017. Juan Ayala and Alexis Carbajal opened the brick and mortar restaurant in 2022. The best seller is the pernil plate, featuring pulled pork, salad and arroz con gandules. They also invented the mofongo bowl, a new take on one of Puerto Rico’s most famous dishes.

Que Sazon South American Cuisine & Ceviche Bar
Que Sazon South American Cuisine is located inside the historic Teeter House in downtown Phoenix’s Heritage Square. The menu includes an array of South American cuisines, including empanadas, maduros, ceviche, arepas and Yucca fries.

Republica Empanada
Republica Empanada has been in the national spotlight more than once, regularly feeding famous foodies from Guy Fieri to Keith Lee.
