The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History will host a lecture on white sharks Sept. 18.
Dr. Greg Skomal of the Massachusetts Shark Research Program will speak about his research on white sharks off the coast of Cape Cod, according to a community announcement.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. for wine and hors d’oeuvres, with the lecture beginning at 6:30 p.m. Skomal has studied white sharks for 16 years and has tagged more than 300 sharks using advanced technologies. His research aims to understand how these predators hunt seals and to reduce human-shark interactions.
Skomal is a senior fisheries biologist with the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries and directs the Massachusetts Shark Research Program. He has authored numerous scientific papers and appeared in documentaries for National Geographic, Discovery Channel and PBS.
The presentation costs $60 per person, with all proceeds benefiting the museum’s education programs. Reservations are required, and tickets can be purchased online at ccmnh.org.
For more information, call the museum at 508-896-3867, ext. 133. The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is located at 869 Route 3A in Brewster.
