JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 14-year-old is facing a murder charge after a fatal shooting on Jacksonville’s Westside earlier this week, police say.
Just after 5 p.m. Wednesday, officers had responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex on LaBelle Street. After arriving, police say they found 18-year-old Marlon Lane with multiple gunshot wounds.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) said Lane was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Keyon Byrd turned himself in on Friday — the same day JSO says it received a warrant for his arrest.
The sheriff’s office wrote in a statement:
“Our detectives and officers will hold you accountable for violent acts, no matter how old you are. We’ll continue to partner with the State Attorney’s Office to bring justice to Lane’s loved ones.
We can’t stress this enough: parents and family members, please get involved in your children’s lives.”
