The New York Yankees left Boston on Sunday night with a slightly bigger cushion in the AL wild-card race than they had entering the weekend.
Now they’re in Minnesota for the start of a three-game series with the Twins as they hold a 1.5-game lead on the Red Sox for the top wild-card spot in the American League.

Why is that important? The top wild-card spot serves as host for the three-game wild-card playoff series against the No. 2 wild-card team. That means the Yankees would host the Red Sox for that series at Yankee Stadium.
But before we get to that point, there are still 13 games remaining in the regular season.
