Gregory Paige’s family demands body camera footage release as they seek answers and closure after his fatal police shooting
CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. — It’s been over a month since 27-year-old Gregory Paige was shot and killed by police in St. Marys, Georgia.
His family says they’re still grieving — and waiting for answers.
Now, they’re calling for body camera video to be released, with the Camden County NAACP standing alongside them.
Catherine Paige, Gregory’s aunt and sister of his mother, says the family is struggling to cope.
“It is not getting any better. We need closure,” says Paige. “She needs closure to go to sleep at night. She can’t even sleep. She’s constantly repeating the gunshots over and over in her mind.”
Gregory Paige’s mother continues to relive the night her son died.
The 27-year-old was shot outside the Cumberland Oaks Apartments more than a month ago. His family says the pain hasn’t eased, and questions remain unanswered.
Video circulating online – Social media videos of the shooting have made the family’s grief worse.
“We never pictured our life in this way, like having a baby. My nephew never crossed my mind like you just do not know when your last day is gonna be. So if it was an accident, it probably would be OK, but he was murdered,” said Catherine Paige.
The Camden County Sheriff’s Office says the incident began with a 911 call about Paige making threats and acting aggressively. Deputies went to arrest him — and two officers opened fire.
The family tells First Coast News only full transparency can bring peace.
“So we just wanted to bring more awareness concerning this particular case and make sure again that that Mr. Page family get justice about what actually happened and get answers concerning what actually happened inside that apartment that night,” said the NAACP Camden County President.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the shooting. Findings will be sent to the district attorney’s office once complete.
