1. ‘It’s not right’: Federal cuts impact Hispanic arts community
Monday, Sept. 15 marks the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month. As millions of Texans celebrate, some are using the moment to raise funds after federal grants from the National Endowment of the Arts (NEA) were cut this spring, like for Flamenco Fever, a dance company in Dallas.
“They ripped the rug out from under everybody, and it’s not right,” said Julia Alcantara, executive director of Flamenco Fever.
2. Fort Worth high school band director assaulted near campus
A high school band director in Fort Worth was assaulted by a group of young people, according to a statement from the high school.

Rep. Michael McCaul of Texas, one of the GOP’s most prominent foreign affairs hawks, announced he’d retire on Sunday while warning that, with Russia’s escalation of its invasion of Ukraine, “we got to be very careful not to be on the precipice of a World War III.”
