I don’t dwell upon Paige Bueckers setting the rookie mark with 44 points in a game recently. Or that she doesn’t thrive on logo three pointers.

What sets her apart is her consistency and that she rarely takes unwise or “bad” shots. I also appreciate the backstory of how she worked her way back from serious injuries at UConn.

Bueckers’ award seems anticlimactic because we knew all along she’d win it. But she deserves the recognition for hitting the ground running, particularly in a year that the WNBA’s other top stars missed time with injuries.
