FORT WORTH — A high school band director in Fort Worth was assaulted by a group of young people, according to a statement from the high school.
Southwest High School Principal John Engel, which is part of the Fort Worth Independent School District, posted on Facebook that the assault occurred after school on Friday near the campus. The post said the “young individuals” are not believed to be Southwest students.
“The Fort Worth Police Department was immediately contacted, and our teacher is receiving medical care and support from our staff,” the post said. “Both police and school administration are actively investigating this incident, and those responsible will be held fully accountable.”
Counselors and support staff were available for students and staff on Monday, with special attention given to members of the band.
“I want to express how deeply sorry I am that this happened. The safety and well-being of our students and staff guide every decision we make, and we remain committed to maintaining a secure and supportive environment for everyone,” Engel said. “Thank you for your trust and support as we come together as a school community during this difficult time.”
