Update 11:30 p.m.: One man dead, another in stable condition after shooting on Syracuse’s South Side – syracuse.com

Syracuse, N.Y. — Two men were shot and badly injured Tuesday night on Syracuse’s South Side.

Just after 8 p.m., a ShotSpotter activation alerted police to seven rounds fired near Bellevue Avenue and Hudson Street, according to Onondaga County 911 Center dispatches. ShotSpotter is a gunshot detection system used by Syracuse police.

At 8:04 p.m., a caller reported someone had been shot in front of J & B Grocery at 409 Bellevue Ave. The man was shot in the chest and lying in the road, dispatchers said.

When officers arrived, they found a second man who had been shot in the torso and shoulder, according to dispatches.

Both men were taken to Upstate University Hospital. Their conditions are not known at this time.

At least a dozen Syracuse police cars lined Bellevue Avenue, which was closed from South Avenue to Rich Street for more than an hour.

The shooting happened just down the street from the PEACE, Inc. Merrick Head Start building.
