It is unclear how the weapon got onto the campus.

PHOENIX — A fight between two students at a Valley school ended in one being hit with the handle of a pocketknife, according to officials with the Phoenix Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of a fight at Carl Hayden High School, near 35th Avenue and Roosevelt Street, just after 9 a.m. Officers were taken to two students in separate rooms, police said.

While investigating, officers learned the two girls got into a physical fight during which one was hit with the handle of a closed-blade pocketknife. The students were separated by staff, police said.

One of the students had minor injuries, police said. The student with the pocketknife was referred to the Juvenile Court Center and is facing one count of aggravated assault.

The incident is still under investigation.
