Crews from the Houston Fire Department said they were called around 10:15 p.m. to a two-story apartment building on Holly Hall Street near the Texas Medical Center, where heavy flames were already shooting through the roof.

Officials said all occupants were able to escape before firefighters arrived.

At its peak, HFD said about 75 firefighters worked the blaze, which affected 24 apartment units, with damage reported in as many as eight to nine units. A second alarm was called just after 10:30 p.m.

The American Red Cross has been requested to assist displaced residents.

No injuries were reported among residents or firefighters. Crews reported encountering some issues with older equipment at the scene, but they were able to resolve them.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
