I am appalled that the board of the San Diego Unified School District, a tax-funded government agency, voted last week to openly support a political proposition (Proposition 50) on the ballot in November. Proposition 50 is an ill-advised political maneuver to supposedly counter a move to gerrymander congressional districts in Texas and do away with a voter-approved system for drawing political boundaries in California.
This endorsement is totally inappropriate and SDUSD should suffer consequences, starting with the firing of board members. This is irresponsible political behavior on the part of a government agency that we fund to educate our children.
What is the next step? Will San Diego Unified trustees be openly supporting political candidates in the future? This sets a dangerous precedent if they are not held accountable.
