Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham doesn’t need to be on the court to turn heads.
Cunningham is currently in her first season with the Fever. She was part of a four-team trade that included the Connecticut Sun, Dallas Wings and Phoenix Mercury. Her first season in Indiana has been a mixed bag so far. One thing that can’t be denied though is her willingness to speak up after rough moments.
Following a loss to the Los Angeles Sparks earlier this week, Cunningham put her teammates on notice.
“We are circled on everybody’s schedule. No one likes us, right? So everyone in our locker room, that’s the only type of people that we have that we can lean on,” Cunningham told reporters. “We have got to stay disciplined, we have to stay focused, we need to get consistent, and we got to lean on each other. And I think we’ve kind of wavered on that. We have our own islands. As one of the leaders of the team, I got to do a better job of grouping people.”
The Fever responded Friday night with a 94-86 victory over the Wings to improve their record to 8-8.

Although the Fever have struggled at times on the court, Cunningham is thriving off it. She officially has over one million followers on Instagram. Her popularity exploded following her altercation with Jacy Sheldon of the Connecticut Sun.
On Friday night, Cunningham shared a few pictures on her Instagram along with this question: “What’s with all the commotion lately?”
One of the photos Cunningham included in her slideshow featured her wearing a brown and white swimsuit. That picture ended up grabbing people’s attention.

Cunningham is averaging 5.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game this season. That’s on track to be her worst statistical season since 2021.
The Fever will return to action on July 1 to face the Minnesota Lynx in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Championship.
