Man shot while sleeping in Northwest Jacksonville home when gunman fires over 10 times from SUV, police say

  • September 18, 2025

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man who was asleep in bed Wednesday night was shot in the leg when police say a gunman in an SUV stopped outside the home and fired more than 10 shots at the house.

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the shooting was reported around 11:30 p.m. on Lauder Avenue in the Riverview area of Northwest Jacksonville.

The man, who is in his 20s, was taken to a hospital and is expected to be OK. Three other people were in the house, but they were not hurt.

JSO said the person who fired from the SUV hit the home several times.

Investigators say this appears to be an isolated incident and there’s no threat to the community.

News4JAX asked JSO if any ring or doorbell cameras could help them find the SUV, but officers said nothing was operational at that time, and they don’t know much more about the suspect or the vehicle.

If you have any information, you’re asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office at 904-630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org.
