Welcome to the Terrordome isn’t just a legendary song from Public Enemy. During a game back in Virginia Tech’s historic 1999 season, All-American defensive end Corey Moore said, “Welcome to the Terrordome” after another dominating defensive performance at Lane Stadium.

That’s how people viewed the Hokies’ home, Lane Stadium, during those times. No one wanted to come to Lane Stadium and play Virginia Tech, particularly under the lights on a Thursday night.

Boy, times have changed. We don’t need to go over Tech’s home record in recent years, but it’s not a home-field advantage anymore. They can’t blame the fans. Or Metallica. The fans continue to support the team, regardless of their performance.

Apparently, EA Sports has taken notice. In their recent ranking of the 25 toughest places to play in college football, Lane Stadium was noticeably absent.

In no way is Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh a more difficult place to play, but N.C. State has had a better program over the past decade. So, it’s difficult to find fault with EA Sports’ rankings for the extremely popular video game, which will be available in less than two weeks.

It’s sad if you’re a fan of the Hokies. EA Sports gave everyone a glimpse of “Enter Sandman” for the game.

That’s pretty impressive. Two things are guaranteed: Enter Sandman remains the best entrance in college sports, and Hokie Nation will always do their part.
