The United Nurses of Children’s Hospital (UNOCH/Teamsters) labor organization representing Rady Children’s Hospital’s Technical employees in San Diego, has voted in favor of giving the union authorization to call for a strike, according to a statement released by Rady Children’s Hospital.
Although the union has authorized a call for a strike, the hospital clarified that this does not mean that a strike will necessarily take place.
Instead, this means that the union is preparing for the possibility of a strike if the two parties cannot come to terms with a new contract, or if the extension of the current labor agreement is not successful, according to representatives from Rady Children’s.
The current agreement runs through July 5, and if the union does decide to call a strike they must give the hospital a 10 days’ notice.
