PHOENIX — Drivers heading to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport over the next few weeks should brace for nighttime delays due to a scheduled road closure near Terminal 3.
Starting Tuesday, eastbound Sky Harbor Boulevard on the north side of Terminal 3 will be closed nightly from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.
The closure is expected to remain in effect until the morning of Oct. 7, according to airport officials.
How will this closure impact drivers near Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport?
During these hours, all eastbound traffic will be rerouted through Terminal 3’s inner curb lanes, a detour that could significantly slow down travel times across the airport.
Officials warn that congestion will be especially heavy for traffic coming from the west side of the airport.
To help ease the flow of traffic, drivers are encouraged to enter the airport via its east entrance and consider using the PHX Sky Train stations at 24th and 44th streets for drop-offs and pickups.
These stations function as a free way people can travel between bus stations and airport terminals.
How will closures affect ride share services at airport?
Ground transportation services at Terminal 3 will also be affected.
Pickups will shift to the north inner curb, while ride share services will relocate to the south outer curb. Some ride share companies may direct passengers to the Sky Train stations instead.
Airport officials are urging travelers to plan ahead and allow extra time for nighttime trips to and from Sky Harbor during the scheduled road closure.
