An armed man shot at an armed robber who stole his wallet in Philadelphia’s Olney neighborhood late Thursday night, police said.
The 25-year-old man was walking home along the 5700 block of North Front Street around 11:30 p.m. when he was approached by a masked robber, according to investigators. The robber pulled out a gun, went through the victim’s pockets and removed his wallet, police said.
The 25-year-old man then pulled out his own gun – a semiautomatic weapon – and fired at the robber, according to police. The robber dropped the wallet and fled northbound on the 5700 block of North Front Street as the man continued to fire at him, investigators said.
Police said the windshield of an empty vehicle was struck by gunfire during the shooting.
The 25-year-old man turned his weapon over to police and is cooperating with the investigation, according to officials. Investigators said he has a license to carry.
Police are also unsure if the robber was struck in the shooting. They didn’t find any evidence of blood at the scene. They are currently looking through private surveillance cameras that may have captured the incident.
The robber is described as a man wearing an orange hooded sweatshirt, a dark mask covering his entire face and possibly blue jeans.
