I did not realize they could come this far into the city,” said Alexandra. “It makes me want to be extra careful of my surroundings.”After numerous sightings of at least one coyote at the park. The wild animal was euthanized in accordance with state and federal guidelines.It’s not known at this time if the coyote is the same one residents saw in the videos. He also owns Dial One Franklynn Pest Control.He said, “Most importantly, you want to keep an eye out for your kids and pets.”Azarello said if you spot a coyote, you want to make sure to pick up your pet or kids, because they are easy prey.It is also not the best idea to turn your back on one if they appear to want to attack you. “Assert yourself. You don’t want to turn and run. You might want to make yourself real big. Make a lot of noise. Scream and yell at it,” said Azarello.Experts said many coyotes live in dens in City Park, which is why you might see them in nearby areas like Lakeview, Gentilly or even New Orleans East.They usually run in packs, but it is not unusual to spot a lone coyote, likely in search of food.
