PHOENIX – An elderly woman was hospitalized Friday after apparently succumbing to the heat while hiking in north Phoenix, authorities said.
Technical rescue crews were dispatched to North Mountain around 1:15 p.m. in response to reports that a hiker was experiencing heat-related issues, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.
Firefighters hiked up to where the woman was and carried her down the mountain.
She was then taken to a hospital in critical condition. Authorities do not know how long the woman was outside.
No other details about the incident were immediately available.
North Mountain is a popular recreation area across Seventh Street from the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs Resort, south of Thunderbird Road.
